Minutes before greeting and celebrating her historic appointment to Assembly District 10 with the Asian Pacific Islander American community at Asian Community Development Council, Assemblywoman Rochelle Nguyen shows an exuberance and humility that reflects her philosophy as a legislator.
“I am the first to admit that I do not know everything, but I will have good judgement and character to figure out who I should listen to and learn from.”
Yet, as she describes her experience ranging from involvement with the Asian Student Union and student government, it is clear that her expertise — as a lawyer fighting for equality in the justice system and as community leader with Nevada HopeLink to end homelessness — will no doubt serve her well in the state assembly.

Assemblywoman Rochelle Nguyen first came to Las Vegas as a student on Spring Break and envisioned the city beyond the strip as a home.
She says with pride: “Nevada as a state, has a culture of being a final frontier, you can create and make your own history here, and I love that aspect of this state and the community.”
This entrepreneurial vision towards the community has been constant in her professional career. As part of the second class at University of Nevada Las Vegas Boyd School of Law, she left a legacy and pathway for students interested in serving the public, forming the Public Interest Law Association and crafting its first summer grant program, which is still in operation today.
For Assemblywoman Nguyen, applying to be part of the legislature as a self-starter and community builder made sense, as it did over twenty years ago when she first stepped foot in Nevada: “How often do you get to create something new, and how often do you get to be a part of doing that?”
